Join the Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA)

BTA logoBecome a member of the Bicycle Transportation Alliance - the largest bike advocacy organization in Oregon and Southwest Washington - and enjoy year-round discounts* at each of our six stores. It is our way to thank you for not just being a cyclist, but also a bike advocate who helps promote cycling as a mode of transportation, for recreation, and as a solution for a myriad of challenges we are faced with these days, from global warming, traffic congestion, pollution, obesity, to the health of our local communities.

Here are a couple other reasons why we think you should join the BTA:

• The BTA is the citizen's voice defending bicyclists' rights and safety. A larger membership base equals more clout with local and statewide agencies and policymakers.
• The BTA works with the Oregon Legislature to pass laws that make bicycling safer. In 2007, they helped create the “Vulnerable Roadway Users” law, the “Safe Passing Distance” law and were instrumental in creating Oregon's “Share the Road” license plate.
• Over the last ten years, the BTA has taught 50,000 middle school students how to ride a bike.
• One of the BTA’s first projects was to advocate for bike racks on buses. Since then, the BTA has worked to ensure bicycle access on MAX trains and the OHSU tram.
• The BTA actively promotes bike commuting with novice cyclists through their popular Bike Commute Challenge (close to 10,000 participants in 2007, 2,500 of whom were first time bike commuters) and Walk + Bike to School Challenge Month (4,500 participating students in 32 schools).

We're rolling towards our goal of creating 150 new BTA members in the month of August. Visit your local Bike Gallery to sign up or renew your BTA membership!

* BTA membership starts at just $35 and entitles you to a 10% discount at Bike Gallery on all regularly priced parts and accessories. The discount excludes bicycles, service & labor, sale items and special order items. A BTA family membership is $50. Join with a $75 contribution and you’ll receive a free BTA t-shirt.

Volunteer at Bridge Pedal!

Bridge Pedal is Portland's famous city-wide bike ride that crosses most of our beautiful bridges - the freeway bridges are the most exhilarating! The event benefits the Bicycle Transportation Alliance and as such makes for a great opportunity to help out as a volunteer. They need about 150 volunteers to help run the western half of the course. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Scott Lieuallen, BTA's Bridge Pedal Volunteer Coordinator.

Check our Events & Rides page for more rides and bike events taking place in and around Portland this summer.
