March 05, 2009 – Today, the League of American Bicyclists announced the exciting news that Bike Gallery is named as a Platinum Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) and is one of the 34 new BFB award winners, and one of only two Platinum businesses. This is the second time BFB winners have been announced since the program's inception in 2008 when the League announced the first 13 designees.
“We’re delighted to highlight Bike Gallery and the ways in which they are getting more people on bikes,” stated League President Andy Clark. “In today’s challenging economic climate, businesses with healthy, happy and productive employees are going to be the most competitive and the most sustainable – the Bicycle Friendly Business program recognizes some of the best examples of this in practice."
In a first reaction to the news, Bike Gallery owner Jay Graves stated: "We feel extremely honored with this award. We see it as a recognition of all our efforts - past and current ones - to get more Portlanders and more of our employees to ride their bikes, and to continue to build a more livable community. This award is already inspiring us to go even further in supporting cycling in the community. We hope it also inspires other businesses to participate in the program. We know that there are many others deserving this kind of recognition."
